Treatment for Anorexia Nervosa is very essential. It’s amazing to me that just 30 years ago the eating disorder, anorexia nervosa, was rarely spoken about and there have been few places one could go in ways to have treatment for anorexia nervosa.
Just few years ago I was a senior high school graduate who’d moved away from home after graduating and was home for one of my first visits. I’d spoken to my closest friend, whom I had not observed in a year or two, and I asked her to meet at the most popular restaurant that evening. I was so happy to have the ability to see her and so anxious to share with her about my entire life in New York.
I walked in to the restaurant and viewed to your favorite table. There had been someone sitting there and I was disappointed but I kept trying to find my friend. I walked through the entire restaurant and still couldn’t find her. I went back toward the most popular table and as I obtained closer I could hardly believe my eyes; it had been my closest friend sitting at our table. I did not recognize her because she was so thin that I did not know it had been her until I was next to the table.
It had been 2 years since we’d graduated and I had not seen her in those couple of years but I was not prepared for what I saw. My friend was an attractive brown eyed woman; about 5’5″ tall and never appeared to be in either category, heavy or thin. She was always healthy looking and did not even remotely resemble the individual standing in front of me.
She could not need weighed more than 90 pounds and on her behalf 5’5″ frame she appeared as if her skin was just being stretched over her bones and when I hugged her too tightly, she would break like glass.
My friend was suffering from anorexia nervosa and needed help. I wanted to have her help right that very minute but unfortunately, she was not ready to admit that she had a problem. I prayed she would arrive at her senses quickly, before some of the deadly side effects from that awful disorder had to be able to take her life. Treatment for anorexia nervosa came a few years later and just over time, too.
She was among the lucky ones who suffered with this disorder and is alive today and the mother of two beautiful children because she got help.
